〇About us
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic
lateral sclerosis (ALS) and ocular diseases such as glaucoma are progressive
diseases that cause motor dysfunction and vision loss, respectively, due
to the damage and loss of nerve cells. The causes and pathogenesis of these
diseases remain unclear, and there is no treatment that completely inhibits
their progression. Our research aims to elucidate the causes and pathogenesis
of these duiseases using cultured cells and disease model animals, and
to establish therapeutic methods to inhibit disease progression.
Main Research Topics
・Search for novel therapeutic agents for ischamic retinopathy, diabetic
retinopathy, and glaucoma.
・Elucidation of the mechanism of induction of neuronal cell death in neurodegenerative
diseases such as Parkinson's disease and ALS, and search for therapeutic
agents for these diseases.
・Neuron-glial cell interactions in the central nervous system.
・Neuroprotective action of the bioactive pepetide apelin.
