Equipment includes a 600MHz superconducting nuclear magnetic resonance absorption spectrometer and Fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus. These are used in the development of pharmaceuticals and diagnostic drugs, and are used in the synthesis of new organic compounds and extraction of useful natural products, and in the analysis of the molecular structure (especially 3D structure) of organic compounds and natural products which are essential to understanding the mechanism of pharmacological action.
Shared Equipment Room No. 3
Shared Equipment Room No. 3 is one of the facilities with high level equipment where the most advanced pharmaceutical research can be done. Equipped with an ultra-high-resolution gas chromatography mass spectrometer which performs structural analysis of components and ultratrace quantitative analysis by high-resolution mass spectrometry, it is especially used in conducting research on environmental pollutants (such as dioxins).
Shared Equipment Room No. 8
Equipment capable of analyzing biological information and carcinogens at the genetic level enables research on the relationship between epidemics and active oxygen. The equipment includes cell morphology and function analysis system, genetic information analysis system and electron spin resonance measurement device. The practice used these state-of-the-art facilities enables students to firmly acquire knowledge and experience of the pharmaceutical sciences.
Medicinal plant garden and greenhouse
These are operated for the purposes of education, training and research by the students and staff of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The site is divided into the specimen garden, arboretum I and arboretum II, covering a total area of approximately 10,000 m2. The specimen garden grows mainly herbaceous plants which are useful for herbs, fragrance or dyes, centered on original plant sources of crude drugs in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia. Drug plants and useful plants from (sub)tropical regions are grown in the greenhouse.
Herbal medicine orchard
Established with the specimen garden and greenhouse for the purposes of education, training and research, it is divided into arboretum I and arboretum II. Many plants are grown in the arboretum, focusing on woody plants which are medicinal or useful.
Besides their use for teaching and research activities, the medicinal plant garden is widely used as a site for excursions by local residents, and it is an indispensable facility for the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
