Faculty of Science and Engineering/Department of Living and Environmental Design｜After Graduation/Career Choices

Our graduates are active in architecture, interior design, environmental design, and other forms of creating spaces.

Graduates pursue a path in one of three directions--dealing with environmental issues from the perspective of society and the public; creating areas and spaces in harmony with the environment; and creating comfortable home living from an ecological perspective. Each direction covers many different professions; it is possible to work for a company or municipality or to be self-employed or to work in research. After taking designated courses and gaining real-world experience, graduates may also elect to take the examination to become a first-class registered architect. Upon graduation, students are eligible to take the examinations for second-class architect and registered architect for wooden buildings.

What Our Graduates Do

Graduates are generally active in the following three areas.
The first is as an engineer in architectural design and construction in the field of general construction or house building who create urban spaces or architectural spaces that blend with the environment. The second is a field such as the design and construction of environmental equipment or construction materials--the pursuit of design for comfortable living from an ecological viewpoint. The third is real estate, doing such work as the redevelopment of densely packed urban areas with aging buildings or condominium management, planning spaces that allow people to live comfortably in one place for a long time. Other graduates get jobs with the national or municipal government in construction-related areas, while still others deepen their scholarship by going on to postgraduate studies.
